Book Review: Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz is the sequel to Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. In this book, Aristotle and Dante are learning what it means to be in a relationship and be in love in a world that tries to challenge that love.

I loved this book. This novel is a quieter novel but that is its strength. It is an extremely character driven book and it is through this that the story really shines by showing the humanity of its characters.

I really like Sáenz’s writing style. It is very poetic and absolutely beautiful to get lost in. I particularly liked how some passages have a stream of consciousness quality to them.

Finally, the characters in this book were absolutely wonderful. They are so multi faceted and well developed. This novel really shows how it is impossible to know everything about a person but reminds us that we don’t need to know everything about a person to love them.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a beautifully written and character driven novel about what it means to be in love.

Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz will be released by Simon and Schuster on October 12th 2021.
